LAKE HUNTINGTON – “This is a special group of girls who have poured their hearts into this season. Their work ethic, teamwork, and growth have been incredible to watch, and I couldn’t be prouder of what they’ve accomplished so far,” shared Sullivan West’s Head Coach Megan Brockner, after the Bulldogs defeated the Onteora Eagles in the Section IX Girls Class C quarter finals 1-0 on Monday.

“We know the next round of sectionals will bring some tough competition, but we’re excited for the challenge and confident in the preparation and lessons we’ve built throughout the year,” Brockner said.

Sullivan West demonstrated strong defense and maintained good ball movement. The Bulldogs have a deep bench with a lot of talened players which they used to their advantage.

Much of the first half went scoreless with the one and only goal scored with less than three minutes left before the break. Sullivan West’s Jocelyn Doyle scored off an assist from teammate Emerson Mall. More than 20 shots total were taken on goal during the game.

Onteora tried to mount a surge of energy in the final 10 minutes, but the Bulldogs stayed on top of the ball on defense, not allowing the Eagles’ five final goal attempts to cross the line.

For Onteora, goalkeeper Sophia Spada had 11 saves, and for the winning Bulldogs, goalkeeper Rowan Hubert had 13 saves.

The Bulldogs  came up short in the second round of sectionals on Wednesday against Mount Academy and their season ends in the 2nd round of Sectionals play.
