Bulldogs’ third quarter comeback stifled by the Raiders

LAKE HUNTINGTON – A 10-0 opening quarter run by the Port Jervis Raiders ignited the visiting teams’ bench. Ashton Mack of Port Jervis led his team with drive, ending the game with 36 points but the Bulldogs responded. Calvin Powell had the hot hand for the home team, knocking down back-to-back threes and a drive down the lane drawing contact, to complete the three-point play. The execution of the Raiders’ give-and-go marked trouble for the Bulldogs. Fast break points from steals and ill passing had grown Port Jervis’ lead to double digits again after the Bulldogs had come as close as 38-34 in the third quarter.

Port Jervis’ Mack continued to cause problems on the court for the ‘dogs scoring 14 of his teams 17 points in the quarter. Although the Bulldogs were down by just seven with less than a minute and a half left in the third quarter, when the final eight minutes lit up on the scoreboard the Raiders held a 12-point lead. The Raiders closed out the final quarter to win the game 68-54 over the Bulldogs. Kevin Mesnick and Demaro Murray chipped in eight points apiece for the Raiders while Jesse Milk contributed 10 points to the Bulldogs.  Sullivan West (3-15, 2-5) is scheduled to play the Liberty Redhawks on Friday, February 20 at 6:30 in Liberty. Port Jervis (10-8, 1-2) is scheduled to travel to Monticello to take on the Panthers tonight at 6:00 pm.
