JEFFERSONVILLE — In their meeting on September 8, the Town Board of Callicoon appointed John Theadore as town attorney to fill the vacancy left after Marvin Newberg passed away on July 31.
Theadore will represent Callicoon in legal matters until January, when the board annually votes on their legal counsel during a re-organizational meeting.
Theadore introduced himself and said he was a “lifelong resident of the area, I did live in the town of Callicoon up until about two months ago when we moved back to my family’s farm over in the Town of Fremont.”
He said he’s been practicing for five years as an attorney based out of his office in Callicoon, and for a total of 13 years in Sullivan County. Theadore has been a member of the North Branch Fire Department for 22 years, completed undergraduate studies at Elmira College, and earned his law degree from Syracuse University.
Highway Supervisor Ryan Bose reminded everyone that the Town Cleanup will be this Friday, September 12, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, September 13, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., adding that no tires and no televisions would be accepted at the cleanup. Town Supervisor Tom Bose said there would be no shredder at this event and that proof of residency, obtainable from Town Clerk Kim Klein, would be required to dump garbage at the cleanup.
Engineer Eric Michelitsch from Delaware Engineering gave a progress report on the Youngsville Water Tank Replacement Project. Michelitsch said the water tank is currently being filled and disinfected and that Aquastore, the tank’s maker, will take bacteria samples and get them approved by the Department of Health (DOH) by next week.
Michelitsch presented the board with a change order to facilitate the relocation of the new electrical shed and to add lighting and a flag at the top of the tank; the change order adds $5,100 to the contract from Tweedy Construction, bringing the total project cost to $800,023. He said the original September 1 completion date for the project would be extended to October 17.
Code Enforcement Officer Kris Scullion said the two buildings in North Branch that had major problems with their water pump and cockroach infestation were going on the county auction next week. He told the board he visited the Shandalee Lake home that has been garnering several complaints of loud noise and overuse to check the water meter.
Several neighbors of the Shandalee Lake property were in attendance to voice concerns, including resident Meeghan Stone, who said the property owner was friendly and had made changes after she shared her worries over bright lights. Despite concessions made by the owner, she was there to voice complaints about water running onto Lake Road, trash left on the property after visitors leave, and digging in the yard that lasted for many hours last Saturday.
Scullion addressed the yard work, saying after receiving several calls from neighbors, he visited the property to find workers digging a drainage ditch. He said it was determined that the ditch should be filled in, after which workers filled in the ditch they had been digging.
Supervisor Bose said he spoke with the owner of the property on the phone and would have a meeting with him this weekend to address the problems residents brought to him during the last two town board meetings. “We will resolve this problem,” he said.
