Callicoon Center Band is back!

CALLICOON CENTER –– After a year away due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Callicoon Center Band will return with four concerts in August.

The first is this Wednesday, August 4, followed by performances on August 11, 18 and 25, all beginning at 8 p.m. Rain or shine.

There is one big difference this year. For the first time since their inception in 1934, they will not be on the stage at the center of town. Instead they will be just a few hundred feet away at the Barn at Callicoon Hills in Callicoon Center.

If you’re heading towards Roscoe, you’ll take the first right after passing the stage where they had performed for decades and then make the turn into Callicoon Hills’ parking area.

“The people at Callicoon Hills have been very gracious in letting us use this space,” said Chuck Sommer, president of the Callicoon Center Band. “They’ve been very supportive. The Delaware Valley Opera has been there [this summer], and hopefully this can become a nice venue.”

Sommer is happy to return, as he said the concerts have been something all the members have missed.
The wait is almost over for attendees to once again enjoy the wonderful sounds of the band, which has amassed quite the fan base over the years.

“It’s a nice social gathering,” said Sommer. “We’re not the New York Philharmonic but neighbors can come and talk and it’s a nice thing for the community.”
