Camp Fimfo OK’d for next step

Public hearing on Dec. 18

BARRYVILLE — Camp Fun is More Fun Outdoors (Fimfo), formerly the Barryville-based Kittatinny Canoes, has seen the completion and approval of a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) as part of a State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR).

According to a notice released by Town Planning Board Secretary Helene Hoffman on December 2, the applicant and owner, Sun NG Kittatinny RV LLC, managed by Northgate Resorts and Sun Communities, is seeking approval of a site plan and a special use permit from the town.

The proposal for the campsite hopes to see a $40-plus million investment of the property, which will see many improvments. The campground will be owned and operated by Northgate Resorts, who have previously established Camp Fimfo grounds in both Texas Hill Country and Waco, Texas.

The revised DEIS was submitted on August 2, which was eventually followed by a workshop on November 13. Present were the town planning board, UDC (Upper Delaware Council) and NPS (National Park Service) to review the response to DEIS that was provided.

Following the review, a roll call vote from the Planning Board unanimously passed a resolution that found the DEIS “substantially [compliant] with the Final Scope and the requirements” that satisfied the two conditions in question within the SEQR application.

A public hearing on the DEIS will be held on Wednesday, December 18 at 6 p.m. at the Eldred Junior-Senior High School (600 Route 55, Eldred). Both verbal and written comments will be accepted. Verbal comments will be restricted to only in-person and will allot three minutes to speak, while written comments will be accepted until January 10, 2025, and can be submitted to planningboardzba@townofhighlandny.com.

The Democrat reached out to Highland Town Hall for comment from Planning Board Chair Jeffrey Spitz but did not hear back by presstime.
