Carolyn Edna Curry passed away peacefully on August 30th, 2025 in Bradenton, FL. She was born on July 26, 1942, in Astoria, New York, to her parents Edna and Henry Geed. Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband Raymond Curry, and her brother Bruce Geed.
Carolyn will be lovingly remembered by her companion, John Garrah of Bradenton, FL, her daughter Samantha Noble McKenzie (Keith) of Richardson, TX, her son David Henry Curry of Hampton, VA, and her granddaughters Isabella and Sophia McKenzie. She leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy that will forever be treasured by her family, friends and former students.
Carolyn had a remarkable personality and a passion for helping people and pets. She made a lasting impact on the lives of many local students as she took them on educational European trips during spring break with a company called EF (Education First). Carolyn’s dedication to her students extended beyond the classroom, as she maintained connections with them through social media, eagerly following their lives, families, and friendships. Many former students became cherished friends. Carolyn was instrumental in facilitating student and teacher exchange programs from around the world and kept in close contact with many of them long after; they became family to her. She especially loved Terje Gundersen and Tove Bormark from Norway, calling them her Norwegian son and daughter, and Manuel Blasco from Spain, calling him her Spanish son.
In addition to her love for teaching, Carolyn had a talent for sewing. From sewing clothes for herself and Ray, including square-dancing outfits, to creating clothing for her children and grandchildren, Carolyn’s skill and creativity were evident in every stitch. Her quilts, wallets, handbags, and wall-hangings were treasured gifts that brought joy to those lucky enough to receive them.
Carolyn’s educational journey began at Herricks High School in New Hyde Park, NY, where she laid the foundation for her future accomplishments. She furthered her education at CW Post, earning a bachelor’s degree in science education, and later pursued a master’s in mathematics education at City College of New York. Additionally, she studied for three years at the University of Bologna, Italy.
Her teaching career spanned several schools, starting as a substitute teacher in the Jeffersonville-Youngsville, Livingston Manor, Liberty, Roscoe, and Delaware Valley Central School districts. She was also a teacher’s aide at BOCES. Carolyn’s dedication led her to become a full-time math teacher at Livingston Manor Central School, where she taught middle and high school students for twenty-one years. Her favorite subject to teach was trigonometry, and she retired from teaching in 2004.
Carolyn was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Sullivan 5 Star Chapter No. 298 and the Delta Kappa Gamma teaching sorority, where she found camaraderie and shared her passion for community service and education.
Carolyn will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her students, her artistic talents, and her love for her family, friends, and pets. She deeply loved her granddaughters and delighted in supporting them in their activities and especially enjoyed taking them on cruises and other trips. Her kindness, generosity, and passion for life will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
A memorial service is planned at the Eastern Star Lodge at 11am on October 4, 2025 at 92 Main Street, Livingston Manor, NY 12758.
