To the editor:

I am writing in support of Thomas Cawley with regard to his campaign to be elected to the position of District Attorney for the County of Sullivan. For almost twenty years, Tom and I worked together in the Office of the County Attorney. During that time, I held the positions of Assistant and Deputy County Attorney, before being appointed County Attorney (2016-early 2020). Throughout our tenures, Tom and I worked very closely to defend and uphold the legal interests of County government. Not only is he intelligent, resolute, and confident, he is morally and ethically sound. For these reasons, when I was appointed County Attorney, I immediately appointed Tom as my Deputy. In that role, he was privy to challenging business issues  and sensitive personnel situations that involved Federal, State, and local laws. His legal expertise and life experience led to very successful outcomes for the County. They also were significant in maneuvering through the administrative process required  for a government department to operate seamlessly no matter what administration we represented. On a personal note, Tom is a good person and a dear friend. His years of service to the County in the offices of District Attorney and County Attorney uniquely qualify him to hold the position of District Attorney.
