Challenger for NY-19 arises early

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In the race for the United States Congressional District New York 19, Democratic challenger Josh Riley is preparing to face off against incumbent representative Republican Marcus Molinaro come Election Day in 2024.

Riley, who ran for the seat in the 2021 special election and the 2022 general election, said that his inspiration to return to the campaign trail is the continuation of the many ideas and policies that he ran for just under two years ago.

Of the policies at the forefront of Riley’s agenda, women’s reproductive health and rights are among them. Taking care of the healthcare and needs of struggling families in Upstate New York are also a priority, according to Riley.

In 2021, Riley’s campaign trail led to former United States President Bill Clinton joining the candidate on a stop at the Hurleyville Performing Arts Centre (HPAC). Dozens of Democratic leaders within the county made an appearance to witness the two together in the push for the Congressional district seat.

A number of Sullivan County Democrats, including Sullivan County Democratic Committee Chair Anne Hart and Vice Chair Al Dumas, have pitched in with their support earlier this month.

“The support I have received from the Sullivan County Democratic Committee is a huge honor,” Riley said, recalling the previous campaigns, rejuvenated with hope for the newest race just beginning once again.

The Democrat reached out to NY-19 Representative Molinaro, who just hit his 100-day mark for his first term in Congress, said he is “focused on delivering bipartisan results for Upstate New York” and that he “will run on this record if my opponent is Josh Riley, Daniel Butterman, or someone who has yet to announce.”
