MONTICELLO – After several months of anticipation, Monticello finally has a Starbucks. The grand opening took place last Friday, greeting locals eager to enjoy their favorite coffee drinks in the spacious new location, located at the Thompson Square Mall, 4058 State Route 42 Monticello, NY 12701.
The event was attended by local dignitaries, including Assemblymember Paula Kay, Legislator Matt McPhillips, Legislator Nicholas Salomone, newly elected Town of Thompson Supervisor Scott Mace, as well as representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and Sullivan Central Rotary Club, among others.
Resident Michael Zier expressed his excitement about the opening. “I’m glad to see we’re getting more modern stores up here and things that will appeal more to the younger population,” he said.
Nellie Miramontes was at the opening with her family, each one sharing how excited they were to check out the new Starbucks nearby. Parrish Martin, one of the shift managers at Starbucks, said, “I’m a part of this community, I grew up here, it’s a great staple to have here, and it creates a space for more employment.”
Several managers and crew leaders were at the opening, including store manager Alex Rojas from the Vails Gate location, to ensure a successful opening day.
Local officials expressed optimism that this will positively affect the local economy. “We are excited to see new businesses like Starbucks opening in Thompson,” said Supervisor Mace. “Our community is growing and showing promise.”
