MAMAKATING — New York State Troopers from the Wurtsboro barracks responded to a motor vehicle collision involving on State Route 17 westbound in the Town of Mamakating close to exit 112 on October 21 at around 11:54 a.m.
According to the preliminary investigation by State Police, a 2015 Dodge vehicle made contact with a 2010 Peterbilt tractor trailer in the back. Despite EMS efforts to save their lives, both the driver, Joseph Wallace, 29, of Woodbourne, and the front-seat passenger, Sharon Ackerman McGriff, 38, of Monticello, passed away from their wounds and were declared deceased at the scene.
Edward McGriff of Monticello, the 34-year-old second passenger in the vehicle, was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center with severe injuries, but his status is stable.
