Comets fall 3-0 to Redhawks

LIBERTY –– The Fallsburg girls’ soccer team traveled to Liberty on Friday afternoon, riding high on their first win of the season just 2 days before. But the Liberty Redhawk girls were ready and confident, taking down the Fallsburg Comets, decidedly in a 3-0 victory.

Liberty, 0-2-1 in league play and 4-8-1 overall, scored their first goal 9 minutes into the match with a goal by Audrey Krum.

The Redhawks dominated the entire first half, controlling the mid-field, keeping the ball in the Comets zone and keeping up the pressure. Although many of Liberty’s shots on net didn’t fall, the number of attempts kept Fallsburg on their heels.

In the second half, the Comets spent significant time in the Liberty zone. The Redhawks came back with a rush about 15 minutes into the half through the mid-field. As the Redhawks barreled down on Fallsburg’s endzone, it would be Madelynn Stewart to score on goal for Liberty.

Fallsburg had several good shots on net, but they just wouldn’t fall. Eventually The Redhawks came away with one last score by Sydania Foster to seal the win over the Comets.

Fallsburg head coach Kassandra Foertsch lamented, “We played lazy today, coming off that high from the previous win, we backed off a lot. We were missing a key defender and a striker. Not our best game, but now we have to pick it up and go back out there the next game and be better.”

Liberty’s head coach Roothland Medina thought that, “We played together, we worked together as a team; lots of passing, lots of communication. What we worked on during the week, with the crosses and everything out there today, as a coach, it’s great to see those pieces coming together. When everybody does their part, good things happen.”
