Community Garden Club of Liberty announces calendar

SULLIVAN COUNTY — The Community Garden Club of Liberty recently held its program-organization meeting. The activity calendar for 2024-25 includes a day trip to Grey Towers in Milford, PA, garden tours, various programs on topics such as recycling and wildlife and our Annual Plant & Bake Sale. Dates were set for gardening workdays at the Blue Star Veterans Memorial at the Government Center in Monticello and the Liberty Community Garden on Main Street in Liberty.

On March 19th, the first meeting of the year, NYS District X Directors, Debbie Morris and Betty Jessup will install the Club’s new officers. Co-Presidents are Ida Richter, and Judy Bergstrom; Vice President Judy Brennan; Secretary, Ellen Jaffe; Corresponding Secretary, Petra Muccia; and Treasurer, Pat Allison.

The Community Garden Club of Liberty began as The Home and Garden Club which joined Federated Garden Clubs of NY in 1938.  Over the years it has provided Scholarships to DEC campers, established Woodland Gardens at the Community General Hospital, provided Garden Therapy at the hospital, installed and maintained the Blue Star Memorial and recently won a Sullivan Renaissance award for creating the Liberty Community Gardens in Liberty.

The Club welcomes women and men from all of Sullivan County who are interested in horticulture, vegetable and flower gardening and wildlife. Meetings are every third Tuesday of the month at 1:00 pm except January and February at various locations in the County and in members’ homes. For more information call 845-794-7631 or 845-292-7832.
