DA Conaty announces hiring of HIDTA Crime Analyst

Posted

SULLIVAN COUNTY — On January 8, the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office, in conjunction with local police departments, formally hired a Sullivan County Crime Analyst pursuant to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) designation by the Executive Office of the President of the United States’ Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). This position will facilitate data-driven investigations into narcotics and violent crimes through statistical and mapping tools and provide critical incident response support to develop leads and information. The Crime Analyst will obtain and provide information from local law enforcement agencies, the ten Crime Analyst Center’s across New York State and all Crime Analyst Centers across the country. The Crime Analyst will be headquartered in the Hudson Valley Crime Analyst Center (HVCAC) located in our neighboring Orange County Emergency Services Center in Goshen, New York.

This Crime Analyst will work under the auspices of the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office and the position is funded by the New York County District Attorney’s Office. Sullivan County DA Brian Conaty submitted his HIDTA application to the Federal Government in March of 2023. The approval of said application was formally announced on July 6, 2023, at the Sullivan County Courthouse by United States Senator Chuck Schumer, ONDCP Director Dr. Rahul Gupta, NYNJ HIDTA Director Chauncey Parker, DA Brian Conaty, Sheriff Michael Schiff, Sullivan County Drug Task Force members and local law enforcement.

DA Conaty said, “This analyst is directly assigned to Sullivan County and will provide law enforcement with the critical tools and information desperately needed to combat this opioid epidemic that has disproportionately affected our county. I look forward to working with the federal government and law enforcement across the State and nation. I want to thank Senator Chuck Schumer for his efforts in facilitating this designation and all members of the Sullivan County Drug Task Force for their tireless work in preparing this application.”
