Damascus township installs new recreation facility

DAMASCUS, PA – After raising enough funds, a new recreational facility next to the Township Building in Damascus, Pennsylvania, is open to the public – including a baseball field, playground, volleyball court, and designated parking lot.

The children’s recreation playground set came from the Playworld brand from George Ely Associates (GEA), Inc. of Carlisle, PA.

The renovations expanded further than just the playground equipment, but across the 78-acre property as well. The developed facilities included the township municipal building, road maintenance sheds, an eight-acre shale pit operation, a cell tower, and a park area which currently offers a pavilion, small playground, baseball field, volleyball court, hiking trail and a heritage barn.

One of the donors to the renovations was the Upper Delaware Council (UDC).

The UDC awarded the town $15,000 of the $100,000 “Townships, Technology & Sustainability” grant to assist in offsetting the purchase and installation of a brand new recreational facility next to Town Hall. The installations are worth over $75,000.

The grant was secured for the UDC in 2019 by Pennsylvania Representative Jonathan Fritz (111th District), Representative Mike Peifer (139th District), and Senator Lisa Baker (20th District).

Executive Director for the Upper Delaware Council, Laurie Ramie, said that the township’s Parks & Recreation Committee had “done a great job of improving the facility.”
