Dimitrios “Jimmy” Nikolados of Mountaindale, owner of the Miss Monticello Diner, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at his home in Monticello, after a long illness. He was 79.
The son of the late George Nikolados and Maria Pappas Nikolados, he was born May 23, 1946 in Chios, Greece.
Jimmy, a beloved husband, father, pappou and cherished member of his community, passed away leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to family and hard work.
Born and raised on the island of Chios, Greece, Jimmy grew up by the sea he loved deeply. At a young age, he sailed the world on cargo ships to provide for his family. Upon return, he proudly served his country in the Hellenic Navy. In 1969, Jimmy embarked on a new journey, when he immigrated to his new home, the United States, in pursuit of the American Dream. Settling in Brooklyn, New York, Jimmy worked in various diners and restaurants, gaining experience and nurturing his dream of one day owning his own business. In 1990, he moved his family to Mountaindale, New York, where that dream became a reality. In 1991, he purchased the Miss Monticello Diner, where he became a familiar and beloved presence. Through his work, Jimmy built lasting relationships with employees and customers alike, creating more than just a business—he created a sense of community. Known for his generosity, warmth, and sense of humor, he touched the lives of many.
Jimmy was a man who believed deeply in the value of hard work and took pride in everything he did. He instilled these values in his children and those around him, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was also a lover of nature and animals, finding joy in the simple beauty of the world around him. He will be remembered most for his devotion to his family, his strong work ethic, and his ability to bring people together. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the community he helped build.
