Douglas T. Fraser of Monticello passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh. He was 85.
The son of the late Wesley Fraser and Elizabeth M. Turner Fraser, he was born November 26, 1940, in Monticello. A lifelong resident of the area, Doug retired as a mechanic from the Town of Thompson Highway Department and was a familiar face throughout the community. Doug was a hardworking man who took pride in his work and had a knack for fixing just about anything. He was a life member of the Monticello Fire Department, proudly serving his community as a volunteer firefighter, making many lifelong friendships. He was also a member of the Monticello Exempt Firemen’s Association. The Fire Department and the Firemen’s Camp on the lake were an important part of Doug’s life. He especially enjoyed spending time at the lake with his and Pat’s family, making lasting memories together.
Doug had a lifelong love of the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, boating, and just spending time in the woods. He was a longtime member of Mahogany Ridge Hunting Camp, where he spent many years enjoying the camaraderie of hunting, good food, stories, laughter, and friendship. He also spent many years of his free time catering with Mr. Willy’s.
Doug and Pat shared many years together. They enjoyed traveling, fun-filled cross-country skiing with their friends and family, boating, and driving the back roads, enjoying the simple adventures along the way. In his younger years, Doug was rarely seen without his beloved dog, Coco, who was his constant companion. She went wherever Doug went and was by his side through countless adventures, becoming a cherished part of his life and many family memories.
Doug is survived by his three children: Brian Fraser (Kathy) of Monticello, Stacey Partsch (Don) of Lewistown, PA, and Kelly Mitchell (Todd) of Rock Hill; six grandchildren: Meaghan (Mike), Keely, Nolan (Kalean), Bailey (Sarah), Kerri, and Trevor (Allison); eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Fraser (Nancy); many nieces and nephews, especially Steve Fraser (Michelle); and Pat Richardson, and her children: Carena Collura (Vinnie) of Florida, Blake Richardson of Monticello, and Kathryn Brungot (Erik) of Florida, and their daughter, Graycen.
Doug will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his love of the outdoors, his willingness to lend a hand, his stories and sense of humor, and most of all, the love he had for his family.
His hands may no longer be busy, his chair may be empty, but the memories he gave us will last forever. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello, with a memorial service beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment of his ashes will follow at the Hurleyville Cemetery.
