CALLICOON — Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Eddie Adams lived a multi-faceted life as a journalist, photographer and veteran that brought him all over the world. He and his wife Alyssa lived in Jeffersonville and started the Eddie Adams Workshop. He passed away in 2004.

Alyssa's sister, Cindy Adkins, co-produced a documentary film about Eddie's life that will be shown at the Callicoon Movie Theater on Tuesday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m. Alyssa and Cindy will conduct a question and answer session after the film.

Alyssa said the movie showcases Eddie's life and you hear Eddie speak and see him in action working on his photos. It also includes interviews with other journalists that worked with Eddie, including Peter Jennings and David Hartman.

Before Eddie was a photojournalist, he was a Marine and was sent to Korea. Afterward, he worked with the Associated Press and went to Vietnam to take photographs. It was there that he took the photo he is most known for, “Saigon Execution,” which depicts a general holding a gun to a Viet Cong captain.

The photo was taken on February 1, 1968 and is considered one of the most influential photos ever taken of the Vietnam War. He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1969 for Spot News Photography.

Eddie started the Eddie Adams Workshop in 1988. It takes place every Columbus Day weekend, and this will be the 32nd year it's held in Sullivan County. Photographers from all over come to the workshop and follow a local person.
