Edith Schop, former Monticello Village Clerk, died at Orange Regional Medical Center, on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 after a brief illness. She was 81 years old.

The daughter of Phillip Schneider and Rose Cytryn Schneider, Edith Schop was born in Flushing, New York, on July 1, 1941. 

A longtime resident of Monticello and Sullivan County, Edith Schop served as Monticello Village Clerk from 1988 until 2010, after having been previously appointed Monticello Deputy Village Clerk in 1982. 

From 1980 until 2010, Edith Schop also served as the Librarian of the Hamilton Odell New York State Supreme Court Law Library.

The widow of Willard Schop, Edith Schop is survived by her two sons, Paul Schop and Michael Schop of Omaha, Nebraska, Michael’s wife Melissa Schop, her grandchildren Sarah and Noah Schop, and a sister, Barbara Katz and her husband Eli Katz, of West Nyack, New York.

There are no funeral or memorial services scheduled at this time. The family asks that charitable donations made in Edith Schop’s name be made to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
