Born in Monticello, NY to Winfred and Leila Houghtaling Kinch.

He is predeceased by his parents Winfred and Leila, his sister Louella and her husband, Terry Durkin Kinch his wife of over 30 years, his daughter, Debora Kowalski and great-grand-daughter Melissa Egan.

He is survived by his son’s Donald, of Callicoon, his son George and his wife Marlene, of Narrowsburg, several grand-children, great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his Iife partner of over 20 years Linda Avery Cosco.

George was a remarkable man who was a lifelong Monticello resident. Bringing up his family here and helping his community. He served his country in the US Army, married young and had his three lovely children.

He was a man who could never sit still. After he retired from a career at Sullivan County Gas Co. he went to work for Robert Green Truck division. He drove everywhere for Rob and he loved those big trucks. He stated recently that he did not know what he would do if he ever had to stop driving for Rob.

He even joined the dive team. If someone asked, George would come. He has a stack of citations and plaques which wouId filI a room. He was asked to join the first Board of Commissioners for MFD and accepted happily. Then he was asked to be the first Chairman; he was bowled over.

He had four great passions in Iife: The Monticello Fire Department, driving for Robert Green Truck Division, his home and working outside on the grounds to keep them just perfect.

He gave so much to all of us and most of it so quietly that no one even noticed he was the person making our Iives better.

His death was so sudden and unexpected it is still hard to imagine a world without George. He always said he wanted to die with his boots on and he did. At 89, driving home from Ohio in a big truck. His favorite run.

Funeral Services and cremation are being arranged by Kenny Funeral Home, Monticello, NY on September 14, 2026 with viewing from 2pm to 4pm. Services begin at 4pm. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery. Reception to follow at The Monticello Fire Department.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in George’s name to: The Monticello Fire Department, Catskill Animal Rescue, Ferndale, NY, Sullivan County SPCA, Rock Hill, NY, or the charity of your choice.
