Fallsburg looks towards 2023

FALLSBURG — Fallsburg’s Town Board reconvened in the new year at the board’s re-organizational meeting on Monday, January 9.

With all board members returning for the new year, the board consists of Supervisor Katherine Rappaport, Councilpersons Sean Wall-Carty, Rebecca Pratt, Miranda Behan, and Joe Levner.

Rappaport said that last year was a good year for the town and listed several accomplishments the board has been able to achieve in its first year as a new board.

“These accomplishments could not have been done without our dedicated employees,” said Rappaport. “We owe them our thanks for their hard work and for supporting the needs and vision of the town.”

Some of the accomplishments have been beginning the process of removing “old, unsafe structures” in the town while adding credit card payment options for the building department.

In the last year, the town has begun the process of revamping its website and said the new site would be up shortly, according to Rappaport.

The Town of Fallsburg continues its tradition of honoring veterans by beginning the Hometown Heroes program, where local veterans are honored with a banner in town naming where and when they served in the United States Armed Forces.

Furthermore, last year, the town partnered with Bridge Back to Life which helped with mental health for town residents and also worked with Cornell Cooperative to bring a mobile Farmers Market.

Additionally, the town further developed its youth sports programs by adding a youth soccer program along with the Parks Department’s commitment to having more healthy concessions.

In October 2022, Rappaport said the town was awarded $30,000 to help fund youth sports and enrichment activities within the town.

The town started the process of replacing water storage tanks—which help supply and maintain water in the districts—and began the design process for the upgrade project of the South Fallsburg Wasterwater plant.

On the town board, Councilperson Wall-Carty was appointed as Deputy Supervisor, with Councilperson Behan named Liaison for Fire and Safety Programs and Police Commission.

Councilperson Levner was appointed liaison for Planning and Zoning, Beautification, Golf, and Police Commission.

Councilperson Pratt was appointed liaison for Parks and Recreation and Senior Citizens.
