BETHEL – Charles Marinaro, a resident of Fallsburg, recently promoted his book Metamorphosis: The Art Antidote Odyssey at the Past Perfect Bookstore in Bethel.

Marinaro is an award-winning writer, director, actor, and producer raised in  in the town of Monticello, NY. His artistry began in his childhood writing the beginnings of his memoir at just 15 years old shortly after the death of his mother. He performed in many high school musicals at Monticello High School and later graduated from SUNY Sullivan.

The memoir, Metamorphosis: The Art Antidote Odyssey, explores Marinaro’s creative journey through tragedy, trauma, betrayal, self doubt and depression to becoming an award winning film maker. It is an inspiring tale depicting how art can be used as therapy.

“For me, writing and art had always been a therapeutic outlet to purge my emotions. So in writing this memoir, I did it for no other reason but for myself. All of the memories, even the bad ones reminded me that I had overcome so much already,” Marinaro said.

“Over time, we frequently forget things that matter most to us,” he said. “Without pictures, videos, books and art, do we really exist?”

After college he started businesses such as The Client’s Advocate: Photography & Self Promotion and Dream Chasers Inc. and later  put together a film production company called Transcending Pictures, where he wrote and directed multiple feature length films, short films, commercials, promos, and music videos.

During his work with Transcending Pictures, he became one of the founding members and President of the Hudson Valley International Film Festival, an event that promoted independent productions from all over the world that ran in 2015 and 2016 in Monroe.

A life-long writer, Marinaro always dreamed of writing a book. He reflected on his many journal entries growing up as well as stating, “as a child into my teenage years, I found myself often in local bookstores like this one and the Ethel B. Crawford Library in Monticello, NY right up the street from my house using the computers for writing my stories, getting lost in various books and renting movies.

“The bookstores and the library were the first places that made me realize the possibilities of my dreams; all of the history and knowledge at my disposal,” Marinaro said.

Marinaro is expected to release another novel, an adult fantasy, with the working title “Reign of Grandeur” this fall.
