Fallsburg welcomes new Police Chief

Posted

FALLSBURG - Brendan Pavese has been officially appointed as the new Chief of Police for the Town of Fallsburg, taking over from Chief Simmie Williams III, who has decided to retire.

This transition was announced at the town board meeting on March 19, where members unanimously supported Pavese’s appointment. This marks a new chapter in Fallsburg’s law enforcement history.

Chief Pavese is no stranger to Sullivan County, having spent his entire life here. His journey in law enforcement started at the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department, eventually leading him to the Fallsburg Police Department in September 2004.

Over the years, Pavese climbed the ranks, being promoted to detective in 2008, and then to Detective Sergeant in 2020.

During his emotional address, Pavese extended his gratitude towards his family, colleagues, and the community for their unwavering support. He pledged to maintain the safety and well-being of the town, emphasizing his commitment by stating, “I live in this town, so I want to make sure things are done right. And I am not going to let anybody in this room down.”

He also highlighted his open-door policy and his eagerness to serve the community to the fullest extent.

A touching moment occurred before his swearing-in ceremony when former Chief Simmie Williams III presented Pavese with an honorary chief’s badge. This badge has a rich history of being passed down from one chief to the next, symbolizing the continuity and legacy of Fallsburg’s police leadership.

Fallsburg Supervisor Michael Bensimon expressed his confidence in Pavese’s ability to lead, acknowledging his two decades of law enforcement experience and dedication to the Fallsburg residents.

“We look forward to the future and wish Chief Pavese and his family the best,” Bensimon concluded.
