FORESTBURGH - The Forestburgh Playhouse, in conjunction with friends of Sheldon thru Catskills Pride, is honored to announce the creation of the Sheldon Soffer Memorial Arts Fund, which will be utilized towards the training, education and development of LGBTQIA+ and Ally youth in Sullivan County.
This fund was created to honor the memory and legacy of Sheldon Soffer, a longtime community member of Wayne County, PA and Sullivan County and esteemed Arts Manager and mentor to generations of performers and arts professionals.
Over his career, Soffer led the careers of artists including singers Elly Ameling, Robert Holl, Sarah Walker; conductors including Robert Spano, JoAnn Falletta, Margaret Hillis and David Alan Miller; musicians including the Empire Brass, and dance companies and choreographers including Pilobolus, MOMIZ, Twyla Tharp, Ballet West and Molissa Fenley.
A passionate advocate of arts education and the LGBTQIA+ community, Soffer believed in the arts as an avenue for vital change and societal growth. With this in mind, the Sheldon Soffer Memorial Arts Fund will be utilized to provide arts education opportunities for LGBTQIA+ and Ally Youth in Sullivan County.
The Playhouse takes this responsibility very seriously and will diligently utilize and expand the Fund in conjunction with programming through the Forestburgh Playhouse Academy for Arts Education.
