Firearms deer hunting seasons in NY and PA!

The firearms deer hunting season in New York in the Southern Zone starts on Saturday, November 18 and runs to December 10.

NY daily hunting hours for deer are 30 minutes before sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset.

12 and 13-year-old hunters may hunt deer with a firearm or crossbow in counties that passed a local law to participate in the opportunity. Check the Junior Big Game Hunting Guide for a map of participating counties. 

The Holiday Deer Hunt is an extension of the late bow and muzzleloader season from December 26 to January 1 in the Southern Zone only. 

During all deer seasons, antlered bucks must have at least one (1) antler with three (3) or more points that are at least one (1) inch long to be a legal take. Youth hunters ages 12 to 16 are exempt from this regulation. 

Pennsylvania’s firearms deer season is November 25 to December 9. A hunter is allowed one (1) antlered deer per hunting license year, and an antlerless deer with each required antlerless license. 

Resident adults hunting license for ages 17 through 64 cost $20.97 and includes one antlered deer tag, one fall and spring turkey tags and small game hunting privileges for one licensed year.

Non-resident adult hunting license cost $101.97.

Resident Junior Hunting License ages 12 through 16 cost $6.97, and a parent or guardian must also sign the junior license to validate it and the information provided before the junior license holder goes afield. 

Resident Junior Combination License cost $9.97, it includes one antlered deer tag, one fall and spring turkey tag and small game hunting and furtaker privileges. Archery and muzzleloader privileges are also included providing the junior has completed all the hunter safety courses required.

Resident Senior License ages 65 and older cost $13.97 and includes all the hunting privileges mentioned for others.

Resident Senior Lifetime Hunting License cost $51.97 for ages 65 and older and includes all hunting privileges.
