Firefighters arrive on the scene in Town of Thompson

MONTICELLO — At 2:20 p.m. on March 13, Sullivan County 911 dispatched Monticello Fire to a structure fire at 2 Dillon Road in the Town of Thompson.  

Three minutes later Monticello Car 3, Assistant Chief Jim Gerrard ll, arrived on scene, and reported a working structure fire in a 2-story residential building with heavy fire on the second floor and attic. 

A second alarm was issued for Monticello and mutual aid engine and manpower from Rock Hill and Bethel FAST Team. Additional mutual aid was called from Fallsburg, Woodridge and Hurleyville with Wurtsboro on standby in Monticello Firehouse. 

Other units on scene were Sullivan County Bureau of Fire, Mobilemedic EMS, Monticello Police, Sullivan County Sheriff, NYS DOT and Town of Thompson Code Enforcement. The cause of the fire is under investigation. NYSEG was called for a power cut. Monticello Fire Police shut down Route 42 and traffic was rerouted.

The building was occupied by 2 adults with 11 children and all were able to evacuate safely. They are being assisted by the Sullivan County Red Cross. There were no injuries reported.

Monticello units remained on scene until 4:31 p.m.
