HARRIS — The first baby of the year at the Garnet Health Medical Center - Catskills in Harris arrived on January 2, bringing with her a wave of joy and excitement for the new year. 

Éowyn Rose Degan made her grand entrance at 9:36 a.m., weighing 9 pounds 2 ounces, to a prepared Courtney and Paul Degan.

Her father, an excited and supportive presence throughout the delivery, was by her mother’s side as she welcomed their little one into the world. It was a moment of immense pride for both parents, marking the beginning of their journey as a family of three.

“It was really nice and she was a little late,” explained the new mother. “On New Year’s we went for a check up and suddenly it was like we’re having her. It all happened so fast!”

As part of the special celebration, the family received a thoughtful gift from the local community: a basket filled with a variety of goodies, including baby essentials, handmade items and local treats. 

“I couldn’t believe that she was the first [of the year] because it was January 2nd,” said Courtney.
