Five hundred properties set to be foreclosed by County:

Treasurer Lara issues warning for nonpayment of property tax

MONTICELLO – “The last day to pay 2024 taxes or lose your property is March 31,” said County Treasurer Kathleen Lara at the Legislature’s March 12 meeting of the Management and Budget Committee.

Lara stressed that her office is there to help people and encouraged those with concerns to reach out, but also that they are running out of time to do so. When District 7 Legislator Joseph Perrello inquired about the quantity of delinquent payments, Lara said there were 500 properties in the county that still haven’t paid their property taxes for 2024.

“We don’t want to take their property, we want them to pay their taxes,” said Lara.

District 3 Legislator Brian McPhillips praised Lara’s efforts to communicate effectively with residents: “I have to commend [your department], you’ve put out a lot of information, you’ve made it very public that we are here to help, we are not looking to become property owners.”
