Forestburgh resident hosts holiday light show

FORESTBURGH — Town of Forestburgh resident Robert Cullen went the extra mile this holiday season. His residence is brought to life this year with a choreographed Christmas light show at 15 Black Brooke Dr.

The Christmas light display is made up of approximately 7,600 RGB pixel lighting “nodes” that work in tandem. With dazzling waves of light and intermittent blinks, the show corresponds with the music heard on the radio station 93.1 FM.

The show begins each night at 4:45 p.m. with a static show of the lights, followed by a musically-sequenced portion which runs from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Cullen said the process to create the display was started months in advance.

To make a song sequence from scratch can take 10 hours or easily more, and the pre-made [sequence] can still take about 2 hours sometimes to match up. The hardware and lighting side can be spread over months, ahead of the holidays, to get your props made up and wiring figured out,” Cullen said.

“The experience for me has been terrific,” he explained, recalling his experience in the project. Cullen said his favorite part of holiday light displays is “the great happy smiles and the look of excitement you see when folks walk or drive by your house.”

The display will remain active until Monday, January 3, so that those who wish to see the show can enjoy it going into the new year.

Cullen plans on growing the display for next year with more lights, more music and more magic.

“I already have plans to add many more next year, as this is an ever-growing hobby, once you get into it,” Cullen said.
