Every year my church puts on a “Spring Fling” fund raiser, an auction with items and services donated by church members. This year I wasn’t up to offering anything for auction, however I could donate by bidding on events at the on-line auction.
An event donated each year by one couple is a barbecue at their home in Glen Rock, NJ. I bid on two tickets and my son and I attended their “Fourth of July” barbecue, which was held on Saturday the fifth with a rain-date on Sunday.
They have a huge backyard and a deck that accommodates about 25 people. The couple made all the food themselves which kept them very busy. In the past I donated a weekend at my country house. People were inclined to attend one or two nights at Bethel Woods. Sometimes I would donate three or four homemade cakes, instead. People could choose which ones they wanted.
It was great seeing people I hadn’t seen in awhile. At this point in our lives, we change quite a bit. One man is in an assisted living facility now and is required to use a cane. He was there with an aide.
