Free Narcan training set for Aug. 31

Posted

WURTSBORO ––  The Mamakating First Aid Squad is hosting a Free Narcan Training this Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 6–7 p.m. at the Mamakating First Aid Squad Station located at 68 Sullivan St in Wurtsboro.

This training recognizes International Overdose Awareness Day which is August 31, and raises awareness of opioid related overdoses.

“Whether someone overdoses on illegal substances, or accidently overdoses on a prescribed medication, their life matters and everyone deserves a second chance,” the Mamakating First Aid Squad said. “Narcan, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses has become a very important need for the public. Everyone makes mistakes in their life, and if that means someone uses illegal substances because they made a mistake, they deserve the opportunity to fix themselves.”

In 2018, there were more than 50,000 overdoses in the United States. In about one third of those overdoses, someone with public Narcan training was present, helping the individual involved. Of those 50,000 overdoses, about 19,000 of them resulted in deaths.

Mamakating First Aid Squad invites everyone to join them for this free training, that one day may save a loved one’s life.
