Guy O’Dierna, passed away on Thursday, April 23 at the Grove of Valhalla Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was 63.

Guy was born September 28, 1962 at Hempstead General Hospital, and graduated from Uniondale High School in 1980. Afterwards, he studied to be an electrician and could repair any electronics used in the home for friends and family. Guy had a fascination with electric when we were kids, he would take things apart and reassemble them and received a few “jolts” in the process. Guy worked making eyeglasses, as a deli cook and counterman, for the phone company and as a facilities manager for Sandata Technologies in Port Washington for many years. He was employed there where he could use all his skills in a job that made him happy and feeling accomplished. He was also an avid New York Mets and Giants fan. He knew the scores and stats for both teams.

Guy was predeceased by the late James Quincy O’Dierna and Helen Grace Collins O’Dierna. He is survived by a brother: John O’Dierna (Susan) of Berlin, CT; two sisters: April Yuille (John) of Montgomery, and Vivien Marinaro (Joseph) of Monticello; and nieces and nephews: Joseph, Jaycee and Eddie O’Dierna, James Yuille, Charles (Marinaro), Marilee and Emilio (Ocampo).

Guy’s brother; sisters, nephew and brother-in-law were together with Guy hours before he died. We gathered in the living room overseeing the gardens and porch on a beautiful spring day. Guy was happy listening to us reminiscing about our parents, our youth, and the fun we had growing up. My sister and I had a turn holding his hands and dancing with him in the wheelchair. It was evident to us that he didn’t have much time. God blessed us all with a wonderful reunion and celebration of life. Guy died on our father’s birthday, 4:30 am on April 23rd. Our Father and Mother will be reunited with their son in the afterlife.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 28 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 29 at 10am at the funeral home with Fr. Bob Porpora officiating. Burial will follow at the Town of Rocky Hill Cemetery in Rocky Hill, CT.
