On Sunday, May 10 we honor the mothers in our lives—whether it’s your own mom or a mother figure. Mother’s Day is a celebration honoring moms and the influence of moms in society.
Want to honor the mom(s) in your life? Here are some insider tips:
1. Flowers? Yes, but even better to have them already cut, arranged, and in a vase.
2. Take them out to breakfast or brunch with the family, but if they feel like staying in, breakfast in bed is a great idea.
3. A homemade card stands out in the crowd and is something she’ll want to keep.
4. When giving a gift think about something she’ll really want/use—more personal gifts are better, something that is sentimental or has a personal touch, like a photo album.
5. We think about “what to do for dinner” every single night. So take that off her plate. Offer a few options for going out, takeout, or cooking.
6. If there are kids involved make plans ahead of time—bring them with you or arrange for a babysitter (with schedules, meals, and payment all ready to go).
7. Rest and relaxation—a gift certificate to a spa or other wellness treatments is a great idea.
8. Something that is always appreciated: Gift cards to their favorite store or experience, like a movie theater or coffee shop.
9. Turn to page 10A for a directory of some great local businesses.
Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at the Sullivan County Democrat!
