Healthiest Fire Department Challenge

The Sullivan 180 Healthiest Fire Department Challenge is bringing the heat. In the lead is Smallwood-Mongaup Valley Fire Department with 167 points; Jeffersonville is in second place, with Kauneonga Lake close behind.

This week departments took advantage of the weather and got outside to walk in their communities, after drill nights, for a weekend get together, and to attend a DEC Walk and Talk through the Forest Reserve at Smallwood.

Swan Lake firefighters (featured) enjoyed the sun and had a department fishing day. They fished, enjoyed healthy snacks and a barbecue, and took an over two-mile walk around their town. A different type of activity, fishing has positive impacts on mental health and physical health by combining social connection, reducing stress and anxiety, gentle movement, and providing a healthy outlet to decompress outdoors.

Keep following along to see who will be the winners of the 2026 Healthiest Fire Department Challenge!
