Healthiest Fire Department Challenge
The Sullivan 180 Healthiest Fire Department Challenge is creating healthier departments, one activity at a time. Smallwood-Mongaup Valley Fire Department remains in the lead with 213 points. Kauneonga Lake is back in second place, with Jeffersonville Fire Department and Livingston Manor Fire Department just a few points behind.
With just a few weeks left, the Challenge is on fire! Departments went on hikes, enjoyed healthy meals and snacks like watermelon, cauliflower-crust pizza, and salads, did litter plucks, and passed wellness policies to encourage healthy habits in their firehouses.
Swan Lake, Smallwood-Mongaup Valley, and Kauneonga Lake firefighters teamed up for a group hike at the Forest Reserve at Smallwood. The group hiked, shared fresh watermelon, and enjoyed the playground and workout equipment at the trailhead. Although the Challenge is a competition, collaboration between departments fosters stronger firematic camaraderie and promotes healthy habits across the fire service.
Follow along to see which department will be named the winner of the 2026 Healthiest Fire Department Challenge!
