Helen Williams, a retired nurse’s aide from Ellenville Community Hospital, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Kaplan Family Hospice Center in Newburgh, NY at the age of 104.
Helen was born Helena Kipetova on July 18, 1921 in Lucenec, Slovakia. The daughter of Juri (George) Kipety and Anna Migas grew up there with her four siblings, George, Charles, Anna and Mary.
At seventeen years old, she was sponsored by her two aunts, Anna and Mary, to immigrate to the United States. Helen arrived on September 8, 1938, on the last ship to sail from Germany before the war. She lived with her aunts in Bronx, NY for a few years.
It was on a trip upstate that she met her husband, George Williams, in 1945. Living in Summitville, NY, together they raised six children: Fredrick, George, Helen, Mary, Charles (Chuck) and Paul. Her husband George passed in 1971; the stay-at-home mom went to work at Ellenville Community Hospital as a nurse’s aide and translator.
On her own time, Helen enjoyed all mother nature had to offer, swimming, hiking and cross-country skiing well into her 90’s. Mom found solace and peace in the beauty she found in the country.
She is survived by her children: Fredrick Williams, George Williams (Penny), Helen Hofmeister (Kurt), Mary Witthohn (David) and Paul Williams, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Helen was predeceased by her parents and siblings in Europe, her husband George, her son Chuck Williams, granddaughter Karen Williams and special friend Shelden Carnes.
Private memorial service to be held at the convenience of the family.
