The Sunshine Hall Free Library’s fall speaker series called “Sunshine Hall Talk” which seems based on the famous Ted Talks has another great presentation coming up next weekend. On Saturday, October 7th Eldred resident Peter Kolesar, a retired Columbia University Engineering professor, will present “The Upper Delaware River: Its Fish and Their Politics.” A longtime avid angler on the Delaware River Mr. Kolesar has been intensely involved in the research and the politics to protect and improve the trout habitat in the Upper River by increasing the regulated water flow releases on the Delaware River’s headwaters. With a small group of dedicated environmental advocates, he managed to successfully lobby the elected politicians who have the responsibility to administer the river’s waters to increase the summertime water flows that enhance the local trout’s habitat thus maintaining the ideal trout fishing conditions on the Delaware River. As you can imagine Peter Kolesar has quite the tale to tell about the years, he and the others spent battling with the representatives from New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York City. Mr. Kolesar will be at the Library at 4pm on October 7th. The Sunshine Hall Talks are free and for more information about upcoming Talks go to sunshinehallfreelibrary.org.

St Anthony’s Church in Yulan will be holding an old fashion Parish Bazaar event on Sunday, November 5th. There will be local vendors, music, food and a talent show. I am including the Parish Bazaar early on as there is a deadline on October 14th to contact the event organizers if you are a vendor and are interested in getting a table. The cost for a vendor is $30.00 and the hours are 10-4pm. If interested in marketing your local business, you will need to call 973-293-3559 before the deadline. In a future column I will have more information to share with everyone about the happenings scheduled at the Parish Bazaar.

Halloween is coming up and the last market of the Barryville Farmers Market’s season will be hosting their annual Halloween & Harvest Fest on October 28th from 10-1pm. It is a truly mega kid and family centric event and a lot of fun. For a big opening splash, the live music at the Market will be provided by the Little Mermen, the ultimate Disney Tribute Band, playing rock versions of all your kid’s favorite Disney Tunes (in costume) so make sure your dancing shoes are ready to rock out. There will be a Pie Baking Contest, a kid and pet costume contest with prizes, a Costume Parade along River Road to the Cul de Sac where there will be a big Trunk and Treat. I have always participated in the Trunk and Treat and decorated my car trunk and give out over one hundred bags of candy treats-to a lot of our kids and believe me a lot of fun happens along the beautiful Delaware River at the Halloween event. Now is the time to start planning costumes for the kiddos and all family members, as believe me the costume competition is tough! For more information about the Halloween & Harvest Fest event go to barryvillefarmersmarket.org.
