Although I have yet to see a robin on my lawn, it is nearly spring and there is nothing better than a new store opening in the Town of Highland to get the flow going. The business is not new to us at all as Nikki’s C Seafood has been a huge favorite of shoppers at the Barryville Farmers Market for years. I personally have not had the opportunity to try much of their seafood at the Farmers Market because I am a Saturday slow poke getting ready to go and by the time I arrived they were always sold out of most things. Once the Farmers Market opened at 10am, shoppers would make a beeline for their booth and start chowing down on their homemade New England clam chowder and the stupendously fresh lobster rolls-while I am still at home trying to find my other sock.

I grew up on the ocean in Boston and we fished and dug for clams all the time as kids so we love and appreciate good seafood of all kinds. It was wonderful last Saturday to attend the Greater Barryville Chamber of Commerce’s grand opening celebration of Nikki C’s Seafood Market and Catering Shop at 595 Route 55 in Eldred (next to Dollar General.) In addition to selling a variety of fresh fish, shrimp, clams, and ocean and bay scallops the menu includes seafood salads, several green salads, three different soups including avgolemono (Greek lemon chicken soup with rice), the infamous fresh lobster rolls, crab cakes, bang bang shrimp sliders, shrimp tacos, lobster Mac n Cheese, fish and chips, fully prepared dinners, Teriyaki salmon and Linguini with either white or red sauce. If you are not a lover of seafood, they got you covered with their Above The Sea menu with three pasta selections and a Surf and Turf plate. They have sandwiches (two featuring steak) hot dogs, cheeseburgers and hamburgers and everything prepared on the spot and comes with a big heap of French fries. The owners Jeff and Nikki have been in the seafood business and in the food industry for many years and the quality of their fish is top notch. Needless to say, they know what is fresh! For the time being all of the menu offerings are take-out only and they do catering as well. The shop itself is very nice and has a covered porch which I am hoping will have tables and chairs to eat our freshly made shaved steak sandwiches with cheese on a hoagie roll outdoors in the summertime. The shop also features weekly specials for their raw bar selections of oysters, clams, and crab. Nikki C’s is so much more than a seafood market and you can check out the Facebook page for their menu, specials and raw bar selections- and certainly Nikki C’s is a great addition to our Town to buy fresh seafood and for new dining choices. The Shop on Route 55 is open Thursdays & Fridays4-8pm, Saturdays 10-8pm and Sundays 10-2pm. You can call 845-456-0184 or text 845-856-6454 for information about the shop or to place catering orders.
