Congratulations to the Board Members of the Sunshine Hall Free Library for hosting another very successful Town’s Treasures and Trinkets Sale this past Saturday at the Highland Town Hall. There was a steady stream of enthusiastic shoppers-this columnist included- all day and the selection of items for sale was incredible. From furniture, framed art, kitchen appliances, clothing, and sports equipment-and a bake sale the event had it all. I arrived first thing at 10am and scooped up several items. But all day those lovely etched fluted glasses were calling me back. So, I succumbed and went back and bought them. Everyone had a wonderful time and got to support the work of our Library.

In addition to the Sale there were free family craft activities on the deck of the library (the deck paid for and installed by the fundraising efforts of the same Library Board Members.) Then from 5-8pm the Shrewd Fox Brewery hosted the library featuring music by the River Ramblers in the Brewery’s lovely Beer Garden. The River Ramblers donated their time and the Brewery donated all proceeds to the Library. A marvelous tribute to our Library Board members, staff and volunteers and the hard work they do on behalf of our community. A very special “hat-tip” to Kari Margolis for another superb job pulling all the sale donations together. Looking forward to next year’s sale!

Another not to be missed event coming up is the Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club’s Steak Bake on Sunday, September 4 th from Noon until 6: pm. The Bake features a rolling buffet, refreshments, the Main Bake, and games all included in the price of a ticket. The Gun Club’s facility has a huge, covered pavilion with comfortable seating and lots of parking. Tickets are $40.00 and must be purchased before the event (no at the door sales) Children under 10yrs old are free (no steak). For tickets or information call Eddie G. at 845-856-5772 or Bill H. at 845-557-8522.

Some friends recently went to the Wayne County Fair and had a blast. In my childhood county fairs were a much anticipated event. Coming up is the Grahamsville Little World’s Fair on Friday, August 19th through Sunday, the 21st . This Fair is celebrating 142 years of operating and is the longest running independent fair in New York State and is sponsored by the Neversink Agricultural Society.

There will be the traditional livestock and agricultural exhibits, competitions and demonstrations like horse shows, youth poultry, we-wee racing pigs and watermelon eating contests -which happen daily during the Fair and on Sunday night a fireworks display will close out the event. Each Fair day features live music and entertainment, great food vendors, games, and of course, carnival rides. If you are under 4 years old or over 75 years old admission is free. For those in between ages 5-11 years admission is $3.00 and ages 12-74 years admission is $6.00. Now the rides are a different story and must be purchased separately but as we all know well worth it. Individual ride tickets are $1.25, a sheet of twenty tickets is $25.00 and forty tickets are $40.00. Unlimited ride bracelets are $22.00 for Friday and Sunday and $25.00 for Saturday. What is unusual is these Fair rides will for the first time feature a Sensory Friendly Hour on Saturday before the rides open to the general public. All rides will be open from 11:00-Noon with no loud music, announcements, or lights in use so those with hyper-sensory disabilities can enjoy the Fair. As summer is winding down the Grahamsville Little World’s Fair is a marvelous treat for the whole family and as they say, “there is no better view in life than from the top of a Ferris wheel.”
