Super Bowl Sunday is fast approaching, and the excitement and trash talking is well underway. Every Friday morning, I get the News Quiz from the New York Times and my score is inevitably crushed because I always get the sports questions wrong. So not being a sports fan, my sole interest has always been watching the half time shows. This year it features Rihanna, so I will definitely be watching.

One local not-to-be-missed event is the Super Bowl Breakfast Feast being sponsored by the Knights of Columbus of Saint Anthony’s Church in Yulan. The Knights of Columbus organization was founded in 1883 by Father Michael McGivney in New Haven Connecticut and is one of the oldest charitable organizations in America. On Super Bowl Sunday, February 12th from 8:00am to 1:00pm, the “all you can eat” breakfast will take place in the Parish Hall located on Beaverbrook Road across from the Church. The thirty plus members of the Knights, the Cardinal John J. O’Connor Chapter, handle all the logistics and operations for the breakfast. These same Knights work on a variety of events throughout the year to support the Parish and the faith-based community at large, and they have a scholarship Fund for the seniors at the Eldred Central School.

The Super Bowl Breakfast Feast is now entering its 20th year, and this breakfast typically serves between 110-130 attendees. The Breakfast is served buffet style and will be offering scrambled eggs, breads, pancakes, home fries, sausages, bacon and a variety of beverages and the price is very reasonable at $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children and tickets can be purchased at the door or outside of the Church after Mass.

As part of the breakfast, the Knights are sponsoring an array of traditional Super Bowl games and activities. The prices for buying chances for the Lucky Squares is $5.00 and $10.00 squares and they will be sold at the breakfast. With many chances to participate and win prizes and have a wonderful home cooked breakfast, how can you go wrong? Funds raised at the breakfast will go to awarding scholarships for deserving graduates of the Eldred Central School and over the years the Knights have been able to award over $35,000. in scholarships to local students. Tickets can be bought at the door or from any of the Knights. For more information you can call the Rectory at 845-557-8512.

The Eldred Little League will be holding their second online Annual Super Bowl Squares fundraiser to raise money to make improvements to their very popular baseball and softball programs for our local kids. The boxes are $25.00 and payouts for the first and third quarters is $150.00 each, halftime is $300.00, and the fourth quarter is $650.00. Should the score land on an empty box the prize will carry over to the next quarter. You can fill out your boxes online at eldredlittleleague.org. The preferred payment is by Venmo@ EldredLittleLeague (John Tice) The Little League recommends that you choose the friends and family option to avoid paying any fees. If you prefer you can call Erika Quimby Williams at 845-820-2453 or contact her on Facebook. Good Luck!
