The Super Bowl is coming up next weekend and I don't even know what football teams are playing, but I do know that Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will be performing at the half time show- so I will watch that part. Locally the best feature about Super Bowl Sunday is that the St Anthony's Knights of Columbus will be holding their annual Super Bowl Breakfast Feast.

On Sunday February 2nd from 8 a.m. to 1: p.m., the “all you can eat serve yourself buffet” breakfast will take place in the Parish Hall located on Beaverbrook Road across from the Church. The thirty plus members of the Knights, the Cardinal John J. O'Connor Chapter, handle the all logistics and operations for the breakfast. They also work on a variety of events throughout the year to support the Parish and the faith-based communities at large.

The Super Bowl Breakfast is now entering its 18th year, and according to Richard Quinn, the Recorder for the Knights, the breakfast event typically serves between 110-130 attendees. The Breakfast buffet will be offering scrambled eggs, breads and muffins, pancakes, home fries, sausages, bacon and a variety of beverages and the price is very reasonable at $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children and tickets can be purchased at the door or outside of the Church after any of the Sunday Masses.

As part of the Breakfast event, the Knights are sponsoring an array of traditional Super Bowl games and activities. The popular “Lucky Squares” pool will be available, and you can buy a square at the breakfast, the Carriage House and the Yulan Service Center. The prices for buying squares chances range from $5 to $20. per square- with a top cash prize of $350.00.

With many chances to participate and win prizes and have a wonderful home cooked breakfast with friends and neighbors, how can you go wrong? Richard Quinn told me that the funds raised at the breakfast will go to awarding scholarships for deserving graduates of the Eldred Central School. Over the past eighteen years the Knights have awarded 90 scholarships totaling $45,000, in support for local students to pursue the next step in their educational goals. Saturday February 1st is Take Your Child to the Library Day. In 2012 Nadine Lipman, a children's librarian in Waterford, Connecticut, came up with the idea for Take Your Child to the Library Day and selected the first Saturday in February as the annual day of celebration. The idea quickly gained national popularity and over 1500 librarians all over the country and in five countries are now planning special events, programs, and displays.

The Sunshine Hall Free Library will be hosting an Open House to celebrate the day. Between the hours of 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. children and their families can stop by and join the fun. The Library will have a drop in craft activity, games, find Waldo hidden in various places in the Library and win some awesome stickers, see special book displays, try out making a project in the Library's new “Makers Space” and enjoy a snack.

The Library staff will be on hand to help children get their very own Library card and learn how to use the resources of the Library, explore the Children's book collection, and read- maybe in one of the new children's bean bag chairs under the “tree” in the Children's Reading Room.

It's a wonderful day when kids get to “rule” at the Sunshine Hall Free Library. For more information go to their website sunshinehallfreelibrary.org or call the Library at 845-557-6258.
