We recently attended the New York Press Association conference in Saratoga Springs, which was held at the Hilton Hotel.
Aside from learning from top-notch journalists, editors, and publishers one thing really stood out: the coffee that was complimentary during meal and break times.
Poured from a carafe, it appeared to be a medium roast; balanced and not too acidic or bitter. It was the perfect temperature—hot, but not burn-your-tongue hot. As the conference attendees fueled up in between sessions, I wondered what kind of coffee it was.
Of course, I could have asked a staff member, but I’m not sure they would be able to provide any answers. So, I Googled it.
According to the Hilton Hotel website, the coffee that is available in the rooms is created exclusively for Hilton Hotels & Resorts by The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, and it is a Brazilian blend with a “bold dark aroma with earthy flavor.”
Now, I cannot be certain that this is the same coffee that they served in the lobby and dining room. Like any good journalist, it seems a follow up question is necessary.
Coffee aside, the conference got me thinking about what do our readers really want to see. As journalists we’re trained to ask questions, and so I ask you: what kind of content and what specific articles do you want to see in the Sullivan County Democrat?
Email me at editor@sc-democrat.com; and let me know your favorite way to drink coffee.
