REGION – More than 300 teams from across the Northeast took part in an exciting, first-ever regional scavenger hunt aimed at highlighting the beauty, history and hidden gems along the New York State Route 97 Upper Delaware Scenic Byway.

Explorers came from far and wide, including the Finger Lakes, Philadelphia, New York City, and Connecticut, with many smaller towns and regional communities also represented. While some participants completed the journey solo, most took part in pairs or groups.

The June 1-August 31, 2025 challenge ended in a six-way tie for first place, with each of the top teams scoring a perfect 525 points. A random lottery was used to allocate the three Grand Prizes among the top six teams. Additional prizes donated by local businesses were awarded to the remaining teams in the Top 10.

Grand Prize Winners:

Casey and Olivia Werner, Lackawaxen

Melissa and Jason Yaworsky, Allegany

Tyler Goarcke, Milford

Joel Wilkinson, Milford

Michael and Yukon Goarcke, Milford

Katrina Rowe, Brooklyn

Runner Up Winners:

James Decker, Port Jervis

Don and Caroline Harrow, Livingston Manor

Lizzy Peet, New York City

K Brez (location not provided)

More than 300 teams registered through the official contest app. Ten teams finished with 500+ points, while 30 teams scored over 400 points.

Scavenger hunt locations included wooded hikes, historic landmarks, and hidden clues around local small businesses, on and off the state-designated byway route between Hancock and Port Jervis, all designed to help participants discover the many activities and scenic opportunities of the region.

This event was more than just a competition. It was about discovery, community, and celebrating all the unique offerings along the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway.

The prize sponsors included Neverlost Adventures, Big Agnes, Kokopelli, and Kittatinny Canoes & Campgrounds, whose generous support helped secure memorable, outdoor-oriented Grand Prizes for the top finishers.
