Ice break!

Posted

With warming temperatures, the ice on the Delaware River is beginning to break and float downstream in large chunks. A cold winter caused the river to freeze over almost entirely. Seen here is the river from the Narrowsburg Bridge, at the Big Eddy. An ice jam was one of the last to break, and now flowing water is winding its way through. The National Park Service for the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River urges caution as ice melt can cause quickly rising water in low-lying areas.
