Itzik Barashi, of Monticello and 45-year resident of Sullivan County, passed away suddenly on November 14 in Athens, Greece, the last leg of a long-awaited trip to Europe with the love of his life Iris Barashi, wife of 50 years.

Itzik was born in Jerusalem, Israel. He was a tank commander in the Israeli Defense Force and veteran of the Yom Kippur War, fighting valiantly on the Suez Canal, and served in the Israeli police force.

Itzik, a retired carpenter, will be remembered for the beautiful rocking horses, tables, chess and challah boards he made for his children and grandchildren, and for the craftsmanship of the hardwood floors he laid and finished.

Itzik is survived by his loving wife Iris Barashi (nee Litwak), his adoring 4 children, Miriam (and Barak) Zaken, Tzvia (and Alex) Feiertag, Eli (and Marissa) Barashi, and Sarah (and Moshe) Nissanian, his 17 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren, 7 siblings, and 7 brother/sisters-in-law. His dear oldest sister Leah Amedi predeceased him. Family was everything to Itzik, and he always said they were his greatest achievements.

Itzik made friends and connections wherever he went, bringing laughter and a smile. He will be missed by the many lives he touched.
