Ivan Alan Weinger, owner of the Inn at Lake Joseph in Forestburgh, NY, died at home on October 5, 2024, at the age of 86.

The son of the late Barnett Weinger and the late Sylvia Green Weinger, he was born June 23, 1938, in Brooklyn, NY.  He was predeceased by his sister, Adele Siegel; his first wife, Deena Gordon Ceppos; and his second wife, Monique Girard Weinger.

Ivan founded the Inn at Lake Joseph in Forestburgh in the early 1980’s, and operated it until his death.  He was a creative entrepreneur, transforming the aged Cardinal House in the hamlet of Saint Joseph’s into one of the premier bed & breakfast properties in Sullivan County and the Catskills region.  He loved bringing people together and interacting with them; and always encouraged his guests at breakfast to get to know one another as part of their guest experience.

Over his lifetime, Ivan sometimes felt like a visitor from another planet, observing the unfamiliar society in which he found himself, and developing insights into the mysteries of the human mind and into the nature of life itself.  He loved sharing his epiphanies with his guests and friends.  He was a man driven with vision, busying himself with projects (a healthy mix of successes and failures), and enjoyed shaping the world around him like an artist painting a canvas.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Ruthmary (Rue); daughter, Linda; son, Robert; stepsons Matt and Doug Wein (Rachael); 3 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a niece, nephew and cousins.

There will be a celebration of Ivan’s life and legacy at a later time.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY  12550.
