Jane Kestler Gregory passed away on the evening of September 20, 2026, in the comfort of her home. She was 91 years old. She was born on March 31, 1935, to William and Mary Kestler. She grew up on the family farm with her older brother Alvin, and five younger siblings, Peter, Harry, Virginia, David, and Diane.

Jane graduated from Eldred High School in 1953 as valedictorian of her class of eight. She worked at the telephone company after graduation, leaving her family home in Yulan to move to Monticello. After meeting her late husband, Richard Gregory, in the spring of 1956, the two were married in June the following year. They spent 67 years happily married before Richard’s passing in January of 2025. Richard was the love of Jane’s life. The two built their home with the help of family and friends, where they raised their family. Jane devoted her time to raising children, Karen, Richard, Teresa, and Lisa for many years, the definition of the perfect housewife and loving mother. After successfully shepherding her children through school, Jane got a job at the Monticello Central School District, as the payroll clerk, where she worked until retiring in 1994, to take on a full-time role as “Grammy” to her youngest grandchildren.

In her free time, she was a loyal member of the Ladies Auxiliary Club and the St. Peter’s Altar Rosary Society. Her husband was the true patriarch of the family, but behind every strong leader, is a stronger matriarch. Jane led the family with grace, compassion and a strong moral compass. Always willing to be a shoulder to cry on or offer a helping hand. Her generosity and empathy were unmatched. Her family will deeply miss her quick wit, her warm hugs, her exceptional baking abilities, her love of nature, and her gentle smile.

She is predeceased by her parents, William and Mary, her brothers Alvin, Peter, and Harry, and her beloved husband Richard. She is survived by her children Karen (Frank), Richard (Kathryn), Teresa (William) and Lisa; her grandchildren: Jennifer (Jesse), Lorraine (Michael), Matthew (Patricia), Gregory, Brittany, Courtney and Gabrielle; as well as her great-grandchildren: Ethan, Kelsey, Madison, Amelia, Ronin, and Alina. She will also live in the hearts of her surviving siblings Virginia Carey, David Kestler, and Diane Kestler, as well as her numerous nieces and nephews. Her family would like to extend thanks to her home health aides, Dara, Heidi, Linda, and Christine for all of their compassion, hard work, love and patience.

Visitation was held on Thursday, September 24 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 25 at 10am at St Peter’s Church, 10 Liberty Street in Monticello. Burial will follow at the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make donations to St. Peter’s Church in her name.
