Jean Ann Harrold of Liberty, NY a homemaker and a lifelong area resident died Sunday, December 1, 2024 at Garnet Health Medical Center, Harris, NY. She was 78.
The daughter of the late Stanley and Virginia Liddle Reed, she was born September 8, 1946 in Margaretville, NY.
Jean grew up on a farm in Andes, NY; after graduating High School she attended SUNY Oneonta and received her Bachelor’s in Home Economics. She initially taught at William Atmar Parish High School near Tug Hill, NY and later at Liberty Central School District. There she met her husband, Leon Harrold. Jean and Leon settled in Liberty and raised their two children, Brian and Erin.
Jean was an excellent baker and a gourmet cook. She made baked goods for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was known for her delicious meals. She was a Sunday School Teacher and the Secretary for the United Methodist Church in Liberty for many years. She enjoyed crafting and her ornaments still adorn many Christmas trees. She was an avid bowler, earning trophies and accolades over a 40 year span. She enjoyed games and puzzles with family and friends and, in recent years, was a regular Mahjong player at the Liberty Public Library.
Survivors include her husband, Leon H. Harrold, at home; one son, Brian L. Harrold of Liberty, NY; one daughter, Erin J. Sorrentino and her husband Scott of Locke, NY; one grandson, Matthew Sorrentino; one sister, Joan R. Reed of Chester, NY; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Reed.
Visitation will be Friday, December 6, 2024 from 4 to 7 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 10 AM in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 24 Chestnut Street, Liberty, NY. The Rev. ElizaBeth Nebrasky will officiate. Burial will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs, NY.
