Kay secures $100,000 for Callicoon’s new equipment shed

JEFFERSONVILLE – Assemblywoman Paula Kay called Callicoon Town Supervisor Tom Bose with some good news on March 6: she successfully secured $100,000 for his Highway Department’s new storage facility.

Bose announced the news at this month’s town meeting on Monday, March 9, and said the monies were appropriated through the 2025 funding cycle because of another grant applicant that was disqualified at the last minute. “Bad for them, good for us,” Bose concluded.

Bose said he met with Kay last year and expressed his board’s desire to build a pole-building-style storage shed for the Highway Department so they can get more equipment under a protective roof to increase the life of their trucks and machinery.

Bose thanked Kay for her support and mentioned that they would try to get even more money for the project if possible.

“I think we really have to step up the pace here and start looking at some dimensions,” said Bose. “So we can get some definite proposals, at least a close estimate on what [the cost] is going to be.”

Bose said he was planning to visit the Highway Garage with Building Code Enforcement Officer Kristoffer Scullion to measure out the available space on the north side of the existing garage to help make a cost estimate for constructing the new facility.

Bose said he envisioned a three-sided pole-style building without insulation and asked the board to allow the highway superintendent to get the specification for the building and request some quotes.

Bose said, “It will have to go to bid eventually but we need some quotes to know where we’re at.”

Councilwoman Annette Rasmussen made a motion to move Bose’s proposal forward, seconded by Councilman Chris Hubert, and the item was carried by the board’s unanimous vote.
