Over the last one hundred and forty three weeks, we’ve talked about every aspect of health I could think of. From macronutrients of food to strength training, to sleep and supplements, we’ve not only covered physical health, but our mental and emotional health too. We’ve talked about failure, how to strive for greatness, and what to do when we have setbacks we couldn’t predict. Health is dynamic, and something we must continue to prioritize throughout our lives.
Our health sets the baseline of what we’re able to achieve and who we’re able to be in this life. It can be our greatest asset, or our strongest limiting factor. It’s so much more than the physical representation of what we see on the outside. Health is not a destination we reach, but something we must work towards each and every day, hoping to see incremental changes.
We started this journey together in June of 2022 and since then, I’ve experienced highs and lows across different areas of my life. I’ve accomplished physical strength goals, improved my hormultaneously, I’ve experienced deep levels of grief, injuries to my hamstring, ankle, and hand, and have struggled with emotions I’d rather not be so close with. I think this range of wins and setbacks is a perfect example of many people’s normal experience, going through different seasons, never stuck in one high or low for too long.
This is why I believe it’s important we all have our attention on our own health every day. While it won’t look perfect all of the time, it can quickly slip out of control if we stop paying attention. Life will always bring us a range of experiences, and it’s up to us to be primed and ready to fully enjoy the good, and be able to weather the storms. Our ability to do both of these things stems from our baseline levels of health. If we put a little intention into taking care of ourselves each day, we are setting ourselves up to handle the rest of what life brings us.
Healthy habits can be as simple or complex as you like, probably changing as the circumstances of your life change. While focusing on ourselves can feel overwhelming at times, it only takes four to five acts of caring for ourselves each day to see great improvements in our energy. These activities could look like a walk outside, a workout, or eating a nutrient-dense meal. It could also look like saying no, going to sleep just a few minutes earlier, or taking a few moments to yourself in the morning. Moving towards health doesn’t need to be complicated, it just needs to be prioritized.
This is the last Moving Towards Health article we’ll be sharing together. As I move into the next chapter of my life and businesses, health will always be part of me. It’s a foundational pillar of success, and one of the main keys I use to optimize my human performance.
