Leaders' priorities are in the wrong place

To the editor:

Three headlines on the cover of the Oct. 24 edition efficiently communicate the skewed priorities of New York State DOT and Sullivan County: Half a billion dollars in (probably) taxpayer backed bonds for bankrupt casino money pit. Another billion and a half for a completely unnecessary Route 17 construction boondoggle whose civic and transportation purposes have never been explained.  And NO money for the disadvantaged and poor citizens of this community who can’t afford heat as the first frost hits.

Thank you for providing such clear documentary evidence of the waywardness of the men and women in charge of our community’s hard-earned tax dollars.  The only good news is that both of those wasteful projects are “delayed.”

One hopes our leaders in Albany and Monticello use this pause to take a long hard look at the real needs of this community.
